Games Played - 27 January 2016

Just a short one this week. 11 in attendance split over 3 tables 4,4,3. 6 games were played Power Grid Deluxe, Nations, Louis XIV, China, Guillotine and Love Letter.

Not a good game of Power Grid for me, I think I made an error in not expanding past 9 a couple of turns before the end so as to get more efficient use of power plants, I could have built 2 or 3 more which would have got me more money and reduced costs later in the game. The game was unusual for an actual tie for 2nd place where both tie breakers couldn't separate Liam and Steve. The game was played on the deluxe North America board.

China

Nations was a marathon which wasn't finished when I left, thanks to Scott for sending me the scores. Mike brought Louis XIV out for an occasional appearance and that table also fitted in China and Love Letter. Our table finished off with Guillotine.

  1. Nations is always a marathon. The shortest game played at the club was 165 minutes long, with 180 minutes being the typical length, and the longest being 210 minutes. I've now got the expansion, which adds a little more to the complexity...

  2. Once again Louis XIV was very enjoyable - lots of player interaction and general sneakiness. Mike completed loads of missions (I think 9 compared to 7 each for me and Rob) but Rob had a massive number of shields and very nearly grabbed the win. I started ok but the wheels fell off in the second half and left me a distant third (I didn't reach the heady heights of 53 as has been recorded, I think it was more like 43). Mike continued his success with a win at China, which I enjoyed more on my second play. The final scores were very close but it felt to me that Mike had this sewn up pretty early on. Rob followed up with a win at Love Letter, which rounded off an excellent evening. Rob L.
