Games Played 5 November 2014

Just a brief catch up post. We had 12 people this week and played Terra Mystica and World Without End together with first plays for Castles of Mad King Ludwig, Machi Koro and Tiny Epic Kingdoms. Sadly this was a last visit for Jaime and Isabel who are moving (maybe have moved by now) down to Dorset. Possibly we will still see them on future Saturday sessions. Read on for a little more detail.

I played World Without End for a second week in a row, this time with 4 players and was joined by Simon and James who were first time players.

I don't remember that much about the game other than that most of the building projects were available during the game, so there were quite a few points scored from that, but  this meant that effort was spread around, so that the Tower was not completed. At the end of Chapter 3, I produced a couple of Cloth and was rewarded when the event allowing exchanging cloth for 3VP every turn came out, I was able to make 9VP out of this (as I think Mike did) including a break for making more Cloth, the event actually expired due to being pushed out by the other 2 blue events before I could get the full benefit.

Medical Knowledge played only a small part in this game. That's 2 games of this in a row that I've won, my luck can't keep up.

One of  the new games this week was Castles of Mad King Ludwig, which has been compared to Suburbia by the same designer. I can't say that they look very similar, but I have not played, Chris has written about the game together with Tiny Epic Kingdoms on his blog.

The results for the week.

  1. Yet another terrific game of WWE, it 's one of my favourites, yes there is an obviously luck-influenced element but the skill is in trying to ride the fortunes of events. When you lose by a narrow margin and curse a twist that cost you a couple of VPs, but usually the winner has had at least one similar mishap, I can remember only one game where everything went well for me and it would have therefore been embarrassing had I not won!

  2. Thank you for those 2 years full of fun. By the way Dave, we forgot to pay the last day (so embarrassing), I will try to remember for the next time I see you.
    See you soon.

    1. No problem Jaime, I'm sure I won't remember and I'm sure we'll survive without. Best wishes to you both and hope to see you in the not too distant future.

  4. Qué pena que no pudiera despedirme de vosostros! Dorset es bonito - hasta 20 anos yo vivía muy cerquita en Southampton. Hasta la próxima!

  5. If anybody had told me five years ago that I became a board game player, I had said "Imposible", but the life surprised me.

During two years, I have known West Midlands and the North and now I will know the South, outdoor activities and the sea.
I don't think that we will find other board games group so cool. ;)
I will miss you, and I hope to see you in game days.

    Take care,
    Isabel.
