Games Played 5 March 2014

A little late this week, but I haven't really got a lot to say. There were 13 in attendance and 5 games were played.

I played Canal Mania and San Juan with Steve W & Mark R. Steve picked up the game well and took a close fought game by 4 points. In San Juan I took victory mostly due to City Hall, Triumphal Arch and some monuments, there were a few Harbour points as well, but this was largely a victory achieved without much help from the expansion cards.

Dave F and Steve H took another run at Twilight Struggle, again unfinished but they were recording the position to continue, I assume this coming Wednesday.

Also played again were Caverna and Russion Railroads, Chris has some detailed comments on the latter posted on his blog here.

  1. I messed up a rule in our game of Russian Railroads. The 3rd railroad does award the points for the bonuses triggered by the black rails even when the rails are upgraded to grey. It is a rule that is clarified in the official FAQ. I think Chris would have gained around an extra 30 points if I'd not messed this up and what makes it worse is that it was the way Chris had assumed the scoring worked until I "corrected" him. None of the end game positions change but the end scores between Scott and Chris would have been very close.

  2. *Tantrum* ;) It did seem a little odd, but I appreciate where you were coming from on that ^^. Makes rushing for the grey rail tile on that track stronger too, so it'll be interesting to see if there's a little more focus on that bottom track for players going forward.

Got to play RR some more, I find myself thinking of what other strategies might work or ways to get more all-rounder points in reading this ^^>
