Games Played 24 September 2014

14 this week, split over 4 tables playing Power Grid, Lords of Waterdeep, Macao, San Juan, Suburbia and Coal Baron (for the first time). Also in that list was a game listed as Santiago, which I have listed as Santiago de Cuba, which has been played a few times recently, but it has occurred to me that it might actually be Santiago which is a game in its own right, perhaps someone could confirm for me which is correct. A little more info on games played follows.

Power Grid was played on the UK map using the big deck and the Transformer Station promo. We have been playing this game a lot lately in an endeavour to play as many different maps as possible during the year. We now have 3 of the existing boards to go (France, Japan & Baden-Wuttemberg) plus the new deluxe maps due around Essen time.

Power Grid is a wonderful game which usually delivers a tense and enjoyable gaming experience, but I'm finding that there is only so much you can write about it so I'll settle for the fact that Simon won, I made a mistake in the penultimate round by expanding too far and left myself in first place, the only plants available to increase capacity were coal plants and it was apparent that the coal supply was not going to be sufficient to power such a plant so I had to pass and settle for my 3rd second place out of 3 games of this this month (for full disclosure I should say that I am by no means sure if I could have won even without passing). Bob too third as Jonathan could not fire his existing 25 plant (+transformer).

After that Simon and I got together with Mark W for a game of San Juan.

As I left, the game of Macao was still going on and I thought it seemed to have been a long game but I had missed the fact that this group had alread played Suburbia.
