Power Grid this week was played on the China board. Before the game I was showing around a list with the winning statistics for the various players and Simon had commented that he had yet to win a game of this with us, he then of course, proceeded to win this one.
Dead of Winter seemed to go down well again, despite another loss. That said I think that Steve was of the opinion that the 5 player game here had perhaps too much down time.
Concordia was played for the second week in a row.

Power Grid moved this week to Korea, we have now played all but 5 of the published (in English) boards this year. The last time we played this board was in 2011 and I never thought that the dual resource markets seemed to make that much difference to the game. Maybe I was misremembering because it was a significant factor in this game. The game was played with the big plant deck so had a selection of 32 cities and an endgame trigger at 20.
The game was notable for a period of quite a few rounds when there were no decent plants in the market. Steve and Simon were able to pick up plants 25 & 26 early on, while I got the not so good, but not too bad 24, but after that nothing and it was Gordon who lost out, althouhg he eventually managed third place.
The game hinged on the battle at the end for plant 57, powering 9 cities for 3 oil, in retrospect I should have bid Steve up more as he needed the plant to match my capacity, if I had done so I might have reduced Steve's cash to an extent that I could win the tie break, but it was not to be, I seem to be having quite a few second places in this lately.
I got my win in San Juan with a late bank. This was Simon's first play of the game.
I've recorded the game of Hanabi as it was written down, but I'm not sure of the significance of the 17 score recorded for each player, this being a co-op that I haven't played.

Honoured as I am to be shown as better than I am, I was at least 20 less points than that in El Grande ^^. I wanted to try dropping back early and seeing where I could get from there, as its' often not fun to be near the front in area control games (Although I probably wouldn't have done overly well anyway, on my first play and all ^^).
ReplyDeleteJust checked, it should be 69. I've corrected it now.
