Just the details - 19 August 2015

We had 17 people last night, the highest Wednesday attendance of the year so far. One first time attendee and one who came many years ago when we were at the Conservative club and it was the Conservative club. 6 games were played across 4 tables and the results are below with a few pictures.

  1. I'm still loving Marco Polo. Next week I have actually had requests to play from Stan, Rachael and Lee so no need to pressgang, After that I will stop suggesting playing with the new player starting setup and will be proposing we use random minor city tiles and character choices.

    1. Gordon - I can't wait to play the "adult" Marco Polo. Though in a couple of weeks time I'll be playing Ora et Labora with Mark R and Mark W, so won't be available until 3 weeks from now.

  2. We finished Nations at the end of the Renaissance (6 rounds out of 8) because it was already 11pm. Scores were recorded at that point, but a lot can change in the final two rounds, so they would not necessarily have been indicative of the final results. Looking back at the records, the first ever game of Nations at the club was with 5 newbies and took exactly 3 hours. Generally we've managed to fit the game into that time frame, but there have been a couple of 3.5 hour marathons. I'll bring Nations to the club again, but probably safest to play with players who already know the game, so that we spare the time of the rules explanation.

  3. Very much looking forward to Marco Polo, have had my eye on it since you first bought it along!!

It was cool to play Medieval Merchant again, it certainly shines with 5 players, despite being the sole occupant of the 8 city early game I was unable to capitalise on my early income strategy as I was cut off quite early on for a large proportion of the board, meaning having to connect the long and expensive way round

I still cant believe Rachel held sole occupancy of the 6 city the entire game, was great stuff

Loved Canyon, fantastic game as always, I was nearly pipped to the win on the last turn but luckily pulled off a trump card the final turn

    Good fun!!!

  4. Any requests for next week? My mid-weight games-of-the-moment are: Istanbul (with new expansion), Bruges, Concordia and Castles of Mad King Ludwig. Could also bring Tigris & Euphrates or Castles of Burgundy for a more brain-burning experience.
