We played 2 games, which Dave won both of, in fact the order was the same in both cases, I think my mistake in the first game was not buying enough Rail Laying and Station Expansion cards beyond what was in my starting deck and in the second going too heavy on the rail laying at the start of the game, causing my deck to fill with waste. I had a Subway excavation card early on, which would make the laying very cheap in a monentary sense, but did not stop the waste accumulation. Others had gone for Collaboration cards which did not reduce all the costs, but did mean that they collected less waste. Rachel felt her problems stemmed from not adding enough Train (money cards) to her deck early on.

Glad you had fun with Trains. I think Dominion will take some beating as the king of the deck builders but the idea of adding board play to this mechanic is appealing.
ReplyDeleteLords of Waterdeep played well again. I don't think we have ever had a playing of this game that didn't come down to the last turn with everyone in with a chance. I consulted the FAQ on the game when I got home because I was concerned we were interpreting a couple of the plot quests incorrectly and indeed we were. The plot quests that give you stuff for getting stuff work throughout a players action phase only. ie if I get a fighter each time I collect money then that happens if I collect money from am Intrigue card as well as from any building I place my worker on that pays money because all this happens in my action phase. It does not however trigger if I collect money as a reward for completing a quest because you don't complete quests in your action phase, you compete them in your quest completion phase.
I'll miss Rachel and Lee. It is a shame they will not be back until half term.
